About KS

Knightsbridge School (KS) is a co-educational day school set in the heart of Central London. We believe that achievement and success are best accomplished when pupils learn in an ecosystem of happiness.

We are incredibly proud of our school and the happy, vibrant and purposeful community that has been built here over the last fifteen years. When you walk through the blue doors you will be warmly welcomed into a friendly school where there is a palpable buzz; children chatting happily with one another and their teachers as they move between lessons, matches or clubs or heading off for a delicious lunch in the dining room. Exceptional pastoral care ensures that our children feel loved, and well supported by consistent messages based around the KS Code – both at school and at home.

We have six main aims at KS – they are Atmosphere, Attitude, Autonomy, Achievement, All-Rounder and Action. Teamwork is the key to achieving these A’s at school. A broad and engaging curriculum combined with an outstanding range of over 70 extra-curricular opportunities mean that children have the opportunity to be creative, curious, and, by having a go, to find their talents and develop the skills for success. KS also stands for ‘Keep it Simple’ and ‘Keep striving.’ We want our students to find their ‘thing’ as we support them on their journey.

An academically rigorous approach to learning enables our pupils to excel across the curriculum, our senior pupils join us from our own junior section where they have a thirst and love for learning, inspired by curiosity in the classroom and a fantastic range of co-curricular activities led by our engaging staff.

Although we are a central London School, we take seriously the need for a ‘Healthy Body, Healthy Mind.’ Our pupils have three sports sessions per week including team sport. We use local facilities at Burton Court, Battersea Park, Holland Park and Imperial College. There are weekly fixtures against other schools both within the local area and surrounding counties in Football, Rugby, Netball, and Cross Country as well as opportunities to try individual sports such as Tennis, Badminton, swimming and fitness training.

It is true to say that if you want to pursue an interest at KS, you really can. A strong can-do spirit runs like a golden thread throughout the school from pupils, to staff and to the wonderful parents who support us every step of the way.

Meet the Head

Shona Colaço has been working in education for over 20 years. She began her career teaching English as a Foreign Language, both in this country and abroad. After a period working in Environmental Management, she trained at the University of Oxford (Mansfield College) and returned to teaching Science to GCSE and Biology at ‘A’ Level, initially in large, maintained secondary schools before moving to the independent sector where she was lucky enough to set up a Science department from scratch. Shona has been a Head of Science, Director of Studies and Deputy Head before accepting the Headship of KS, which is described by her as a: ‘unique, warm and caring school where happy staff and happy children achieve amazing things.’ She has an MA with distinction in Educational Leadership and is trained as an ISI School Inspector.

Interesting facts about KS

  • We are pioneers as the first private day school to have Place2Be as our in-house counselling service for KS children, staff, and parents.
  • The Knightsbridge School Education Foundation (KSEF), provides 100% bursaries to two children annually, supporting them from their time of entry at Year 7. So far we have nominated 21 children from our local community.
  • Our Parents’ Association is heavily involved in our charitable work, raising incredible amounts at the Knightsbridge School Paren’s Association (KSPA) Gala. This funding allows us to add the ‘extra’ to our extraordinary provision and much-needed resources for two underfunded schools we are close to, Marlborough Primary and Ashburnham Primary, i.e Place2Be services and sharing outdoor spaces for sports activities.
  • Our pupils have voted to support the Teenage Cancer Trust and this helps them to truly understand more about the charity they are raising money for and allows the school to support a worthy cause. In addition, Knightsbridge School also has three main charities which it supports every year: The Royal Hospital Chelsea, The Knightsbridge School Educational Foundation (KSEF), and Place2Be. Representatives and pensioners from The Royal Hospital attend our Remembrance Service and fundraisers, and we ask all parents to join it as friends as there are lots of activities and events.
